EMFs: The Reason to Ditch Your Bluetooth Headphones
It seems like all cell phone carriers are pushing us toward bluetooth accessories. And while they may be convenient, the truth is, bluetooth devices—and more specifically bluetooth headphones—are simply not safe when used for long periods of time on a regular basis.
EMFs
Before we can discuss the potential harms of bluetooth headphones, we must first understand electromagnetic fields (EMFs). EMFs are invisible areas of energy, or radiation, that are produced by electricity.
When we use Bluetooth and wireless headphones they emit a nonionizing (or low-level) EMF called radio frequency radiation (RFR).
While it is true that Bluetooth generally operates at lower intensities than cellular signals (which themselves have been linked to a number of health risks) wireless headphones are designed to be placed directly in the ear, next to the head for long periods of time. This increases the contact time that EMF radiation has to your head and brain tissue.
While Bluetooth and wireless headphones do emit lower levels of radiation compared to a cell phone, their placement is a big concern to some health experts.
Some experts predict that chronic use of wireless devices could very well add up over time and hurt your health.
“If one uses AirPods many hours a day, the cumulative exposure to the brain from this microwave radiation could be substantial,” Joel Moskowitz, Director of UC Berkeley’s Center for Family and Community Health stated.

Ditching Bluetooth Headphones
The best way to avoid harmful EMF from Bluetooth headphones is to not use them.
When making phone calls, try to use the speaker phone function whenever you can while having your device 10 feet away from you.
If using the speaker option isn’t ideal, try to use airtube headphones instead.
Air tube headphones keep the harmful EMF radiation away from your head.
They function similar to a medical doctor’s stethoscope.
Sound is ported up to your head via air tubes rather than electrical wires.
These DefenderShield EMF-Free Earbud Headphones are a great way to ditch bluetooth headphones. They have a microphone with volume control and they are compatible with the iPhone and Galaxy devices as well as others.
If you’re in the market for a more affordable pair of air tube headphones, these Aircom A1 Anti-Radiation Air Tube Headphones are just what you’re looking for. These headphones also feature a built-in microphone and come in black or white.
Avoiding EMFs
While it is impossible to avoid EMFs altogether, it is important to be aware of them and take steps to lower your exposure to them.
Small steps to lower EMFs make a difference in the long run just like small steps to increase your exposure adds up to potentially harm you.
Be mindful of your exposure and avoid EMFs when possible.
